Rishi Kapoor angry with young and yesteryear actors for not paying their respects to a Hindi cinema legend – posts series of tweets in remembrance

An angry Rishi Kapoor has taken to Twitter to criticise members of the film fraternity for not attending Vinod Khanna’s funeral on Thursday. The veteran actor was incensed that ‘today’s so-called stars’ showed a lack of respect for his late ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ co-star by not being there for his last rites, despite many of them having worked with him in the past. He also said he was heartbroken that none of Khanna’s leading ladies were present to bid adieu to the legendary actor. Vinod Khanna passed away in Mumbai at the age of 70, succumbing to bladder cancer on Thursday, 27th April.

Other than Abhishek Bachchan and Randeep Hooda, none of the younger actors were seen at the funeral. Kapoor feels that Vinod Khanna’s close connection to the industry should have led to a much better attendance to mark his passing. His career spanned over four decades and 150 films, with his most recent release having been ‘Dilwale’ in 2015. He also has two children, Akshaye and Rahul, who are well-known in the industry, while his youngest son Sakshi is said to be launching his acting career soon too.

64-year-old Rishi Kapoor was further angered by the fact that he met many people from the film industry at Priyanka Chopra’s party the night before Vinod Khanna’s demise, but most of them did not bother to attend the funeral the next day. He pointed out that his wife Neetu and son Ranbir were not in the country, or else they would have been present. He also added that he expects more people to turn up for the prayer meet, as it’s more of a ‘fashion parade’ and they will be ‘in the comforts of air conditioned premises’.

As a mark of respect, the Baahubali 2 filmmakers cancelled the Mumbai grand premiere, which Kapoor welcomed as ‘a justified tribute’. Since the legendary actor’s demise, Rishi Kapoor has been posting throwbacks to the happy times the two shared together.
