Dev Anand’s last rites to be performed today


The family of Bollywood’s legend Dev Anand, will today be performing the last rites of the actor, who dies of a cardiac arrest in London. The actor was 88 years old and was accompanied by his son Suniel for a medical check up.

The decision that the actor will be cremated in London was taken by the family. On December 7, Dev Anand’s daughter and wife Kalpana Karthik arrived in London for the funeral.

According to a statement released by the family members on Tuesday, a memorial service will also be held at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan immediately after the funeral at West London. The ashes of the actor will be taken back to Mumbai, where a big memorial ceremony will be held.

Dev Anand was known for his unique style of acting and made his debut in the year 1946 as an actor with ‘Hum Ek Hain’. His movie ‘Ziddi’ made him a star in the year 1947. The actor then went on to give numerous hits with the movies like ‘Guide’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Amir Garib’, ‘Warrant’, ‘Des Pardes’ and ‘Johny Mera Naam’. Anand for his tremendous contributions was honored with Padma Bhushan in the year 2001. Later in the year 2002 the actor was also honored with Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
