Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and filmmaker Ramesh Sippy launched five degree courses in filmmaking at the University of Mumbai on March 9, 2017. VFX and Animation, film art, film production and script writing courses have been launched and will be offered starting from the 2017 – 18 batch. The courses will be supervised by Mumbai University’s Garware Institute of Career Education and Development, in collaboration with The Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema and Entertainment.
At the event, MU Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh and Amitabh Bachchan gave detailed insights into the new courses being offered. Every course will have a duration of three years and the papers will be evaluated on 75-25 basis. 75% importance will be given to practical and just 25% will be theory.
Mr. Bachchan was felicitated at the event as he launched the new courses at an event held at Mumbai University’s Kalina Campus.
Ashish Kulkarni, an advisory board member of the academy said that the courses will help improve the cinematographic skills of showbiz aspirants. Kulkarni said, “In countries across the world, universities have supported their respective film industries. It’s a shame that in its 160 years, MU has not had any academic programme that covers the 105-year-old film industry in the country”.
