Petitioners against Phillauri were fined Rs. 5 lakh for wasting HC’s time
Actress turned producer Anushka Sharma’s second movie, Phillauri releases today. However, while the movie was still in the making, a legal petition was filed against Anushka’s production house citing copyright infringement.
The petition was moved to Bombay High court and claimed that the movie’s story line had uncanny similarities to that of a Gujarati movie Mangal Fera. However, Bombay High Court found the case in favor of Anushka Sharma’s production house and fined the petitioners Rs. 5 lakh for wasting court’s time!
Makers of Mangal Fera, Gayatri and Darshan Rathod claimed that the script of Phillauri was similar to that of their movie. Reports say that they had earlier approached Anushka’s production house regarding the matter but, they made false claims of the Anushka Sharma starrer was being based the story of a women who gets married to a tree. However, makers of Mangal Fera were not satisfied and moved to court.
After their case’s dismissal, Gayatri and Darshan Rathod have decided to challenge High Court’s order and are considering moving to Supreme Court.
