Jharkhand Government makes Begum Jaan tax-free and gives Rs. 2 crore subsidy on set

Historic drama Begum Jaan has been declared tax-free in the state of Jharkhand by Chief Minister Raghubar Das. This would be applicable from the day of release, April 14, 2017. Begum Jaan is the first Hindi feature film to have been shot primarily in Jharkhand. State government even extended a subsidy of Rs. 2 crores for the entire film’s set in an attempt to promoted Jharkhand as an ideal destination to shoot films. As per the state’s film policy, the Chief Minister even handed over  cheque of Rs. 50 lakhs to the entire team of Begum Jaan as a token of thanks.

It has also been reported that Jharkhand CM, Raghubar Das offered Vidya Balan to be the brand ambassador of Jharkhand and the actress has accepted. So very soon you will seen Vidya feature in Jharkhand tourism ads. Director Srijit Mukherjee even took to Facebook to share the news and wrote – “Delighted to announce that ‘Begum Jaan’ has been declared tax free in Jharkhand and has also been given a subsidy of 2 cr under the Government Policy of Promotion of Jharkhand as a Film Destination.” Even producer Mahesh Bhatt shared the news with his followers through his Twitter account and said, “Thank you Jharkhand! Thank you Raghubar Das Ji! Your support to our film ‘Begum Jaan’ has made a great difference. Thank you! @dasraghubar.”

Begum Jaan is an adaptation of Bengali film, Rajkahini and stars Vidya Balan in the lead role as the brothel’s madam. The entire star cast of the movie includes, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Rajit Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chunky Pandey, Pitobash, Poonam Rajput, Ridheema Tiwari, Flora Saini, Priyanka Setia, Mishti Chakraborty, Sumit Nijhawan, Rajesh Sharma, Vivek Mushran and Naseeruddin Shah who is making a guest appearance.
