Dum Maaro Dum gets green signal from HC, activists not happy

Bollywod Garam: In some good news for the makers of the Bollywood movie ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ – who were alleged to portray the state of Goa in bad light – the Indian High court has dismissed the petition filed by Savio Rodrigues. Savio, a media professional had filed the Public Interest Litigation against the makers of the movie Fox Star Studio International Private Limited.

Advocate Winnie Coutinho, representing the petitioner, in the court had argued that the makers have replaced the word ‘women’ with ‘relationships’, which did not make any difference. The petitioners had objected the sentence in the promo, which said that women in Goa are cheaper than liquor.

On the other hand, the defense lawyer, had said that the word ‘women’ continues in the promos which are telecasted at the international level. The HC had dismissed the petition of Rodrigues, saying that the petition to ban the movie was just on the basis of the promos.

The makers have already deleted the objectionable content of the movie and moreover the censor board too had given an ‘A’ certificate. So the court did not find any reason to band the movie just on the basis of the promotional videos. The representative of the FSSIPL has said that they are ready to release the movie worldwide. Activists say that the content of the movie is derogatory not only to the state of Goa but also to every Indian woman and has urged viewers to ban the movie since it is an offense to women.

‘Dum Maaro Dum’ will be releasing on 22nd April on Friday.
