Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddharamaiah has some good news for the movie goers of the state. Since the Baahubali 2: The Conclusion mania is on among the fans, the chief minister has announced a cap of Rs. 200 on all movie tickets of the film in the state. However, people who have booked their tickets in advance need not fret as theatres have been directed to refund the excess money.
Baahubali 2 will be the first film to have such a fee structure. The recent move is a result of a long-standing demand from the Kannada Film Industry to encourage local film culture. Siddharamaiah, while talking to the media said, “By May, we will introduce a cap on all films that are screened in Karnataka. It will cost Rs. 200 and it will help the industry greatly”. The move has also been considered as a step towards preserving the culture and language of Kannada.
With the recent cap, more people are expected to watch the film in theatres. The decision of putting a cap by the Karnataka government hasn’t been appreciated by all. President of Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association in Mumbai, Nitin Datar opined, “It’s the decision of the Karnataka government, but if you ask me, there shouldn’t be any restrictions on business or rates. In single screen cinemas, rates are lower than multiplexes. Theatre owners too have to incur a cost to run the cinema, including rent or lease as well as staff salary. If anyone wants to see a show at a lower rate, then they can go to single screens or watch morning shows on weekdays.”
