Baahubali 2 is still shattering box office records, which it has done since it opened to a phenomenal worldwide response on April 28th, and the blockbuster film is now reportedly set to feature at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. According to the official Baahubali Twitter handle, both parts of director SS Rajamouli’s epic franchise, Baahubali – The Beginning and Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion, will have special screenings at Cannes 2017.
To date, Baahubali 2’s staggering earnings have exceeded Rs. 1500 crore, and trade estimates suggest it is very likely to hit the Rs. 2000 crore mark as well. It has set box office records both in India and internationally, as the film originally made in Telugu and Tamil was dubbed to make Hindi, Malayalam, English, German, French and Japanese versions. Starring Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Sathyaraj in lead roles, there is a good chance Baahubali can steal some of the limelight at Cannes from Bollywood beauties Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor!
Incidentally, Tamil director Sundar C’s next big-budget project Sanghamitra was recently announced at the festival too. With an estimated cost of Rs. 250 crore, the upcoming period drama is also to be made in two parts, and aims to rival Baahubali’s impact when the first installment releases next year.
