The real trouble behind ‘Dum Maaro Dum’

Bollywood Garam: Despite relief from the High Court for the movie ‘Dum Maaro Dum’, the Indian government has said that they could drag the makers of the movie back to court in order to protect the dignity of women. On Thursday, a Congress MP said that Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni is still not satisfied with certain dialogues in the movie.

The statement came just a day before ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ will be released. Soni in her statement had expressed her dissatisfaction over the non removal of the dialogues from the prints, meant for the overseas distribution. It also said that Soni met Chief Minister Digambar Kamat over the issue, and that Congress MP Naik also said that the Union Minister seeks an amendment in the Section 6 of the Cinematographic Act 1952. The amendment is demanded so that it would empower the ministry to interfere in the public interest.

When the producer of the movie ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ was told to remove the dialogue from the movie, in which Goa is called the land of cheap women, Naik had called the producer anti-national over the refusal. Naik had said that the producer had no regard for the dignity of the people of the country.

Dum Maaro Dum released on April 22 and stars Bipasha Basu and Abhishek Bachchan.
