Bigg Boss Tamil – 100 crore defamation suit filed against Kamal Hassan & Star Vijay TV

Controversies don’t seem to end for South superstar Kamal Hassan! After the religious controversy surrounding Hassan, he has found himself in a soup again owing to some derogatory remarks made by a Bigg Boss Tamil contestant.

Kamal Hassan was roped in to host the latest season of Bigg Boss Tamil which has been embroiled in controversies since the first episode aired. Now, all the prominent faces associated with Bigg Boss Tamil including host Kamal Hassan, Star Vijay TV, Endemol Shine India CEO, Deepak Dhar and contestant Gayathri Raghuram are faced with a Rs. 100 crore defamation suit owing to the latter’s use of the derogatory word, ‘Cheri’.

‘Cheri’ in Tamil literally mean ‘slum dweller’. The contestant, Gayathri Raghuram used the word while in a spat with another fellow contestant in the house which did not go down well with leader of Puthiya Tamizhagam, K Krishnaswamy. The casteist slur received flak from all sections, including contestants, media and audience and Tamil political leader K Krishnaswamy has decided to file a defamation suit to the tune of Rs. 100 crores claiming that the remark hurt sentiments of the community and depicted them in bad light.

In an interview with India Today, Puthiya Tamizhagam leader, K Krishnaswamy said, “We have always raised our voice when derogatory remarks have been uttered against poor and marginalized people. There is no personal grudge against Kamal Haasan. We had given him enough time to apologize. The show is not directly telecasted. When it is edited, they could have easily edited that portion.”

Previously, K Krishnaswamy had threatened Kamal Hassan to file the defamation suit if he failed to publicly apologize for the same. However, he went ahead with filing the suit for which a notice has been served to the show makers and host – demanding a unconditional apology within seven days.
