In an interview on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, Simran’s director Hansal Mehta said that it angered him to see close friend and lead actress Kangana Ranaut’s name being dragged into controversies related to the film.

Since the official teaser trailer of Simran released two months ago, the film has been embroiled in several controversies – from writer Apurva Asrani blaming Kangana for not giving him due credit for creating the film’s script to rumors of her being too involved in the film’s editing process.

Recently, leading tabloids speculated that Kangana Ranaut was unhappy with the film’s first teaser trailer and thus, decided to take over the films’s editing. Reacting to this, director Hansal Mahta said, “All this speculation is false, malicious and totally fabricated. I collaborate closely with my team and my actors are an integral part of that collaboration. It angers me that every time some malicious gossip has to be spread, people meaninglessly drag Kangana into their stupid machinations. She is a valued friend, actor and collaborator. Period.”

Further, even Simran’s producer, Bhushan Kumar released a statement in which he completely rubbished rumors that Kangana was calling the shots while the film’s editing. He said, “We all work as a team and her feedback on every promo and plan is crucial. At the end, the film is a director’s vision and the film campaign will stay close to that only.”

Some reports even went on to state that Hansal Mehta suggested that Vishal Bharadwaj should have taken Kagana Ranaut’s suggestions into consideration while editing Rangoon. Hansal went to to rubbish these rumors as well and said, “I’m even more hurt that some malicious person chooses to drag my relationship with Vishal Bhardwaj into this malice. Vishal is one of my dearest friends and if I am making films today it is because of him. I would never say anything that could remotely even hurt or upset somebody I love so dearly and to whom I am so grateful.”
