Shraddha Kapoor learns from World No. 1 Saina Nehwal for her next biopic

Shraddha Kapoor has acknowledged learning skills from the Olympic winner to ace her role as Saina Nehwal in her upcoming biopic playing the badminton champion

Biopics have become the latest cult in Bollywood, it seems. After Mary Kom(Mary Kom), MS Dhoni (MS Dhoni), Milkha Singh (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) and Geeta and Babita Phogat (Dangal), it is time for another biopic on yet another famous sports personality – Saina Nehwal. Directed by Amole Gupte (of Taare Zameen Par, Stanley Ka Dabba and Singham Returns fame) and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor has been roped in to essay the role of the ace badminton player and Olympic bronze winner.

Shraddha confirmed the news in April, 2017 on Twitter:

Speaking about the preparations for this upcoming film, Shraddha in an earlier interview to Firstpost said, “The preparation for this film is going to be very, very challenging. It’s probably going to be my most difficult film till date. I can’t wait to learn from Saina herself. She is going to teach me the sport.” She was also quoted saying to a leading daily, “Most girls have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who has not just been the world’s no. 1 badminton player, but is also a youth icon.”

Another soon-to-release biopic has Shraddha in the lead role – Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai where she essays the real-life role of Haseena Parkar, gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s sister. The new brand ambassador for Vogue Eyewear, Shraddha, while talking to the press during an interaction for the eyewear brand, said, “I have fallen in love with the sport. I look forward to my badminton sessions every day.” She further added that she has been keeping in constant touch with Nehwal over her badminton sessions for acing her new role, “I keep messaging her. We exchange notes about the game. I also share videos of my training sessions with Saina and she shares her feedback. She tells me how my game can get better. Since I need to pick up her mannerisms and understand her mindset, watching old matches is also part of the preparation.”

While her recent release, Half Girlfriend saw Shraddha playing basketball as Riya Somani for few scenes in the film, this time the entire movie will be based on the life and career of the champion shuttler and with high expectations around biopics now among audiences, it will be thrilling to see how the 30-year-old actor performs.
