Bollywood Garam: In Bollywood, it has become a trend that movies have to get a threat from an external body before its release. Mostly the issues are regarding the subject matter of the movies – either the public has become sensitive, or the filmmakers these days are daring to touch sensitive issues.
Upcoming movie ‘Aarakshan’ too is facing similar turmoil from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. The members of the commission have demanded a screening of the movie before the movie hits theaters.
As the director Prakash Jha has touched the subject of caste reservations in the movie, the NCSC members want to make sure that the movie does not offend or misrepresent the laws on the reservation. However, the director has reportedly refused to give in to the demands of the commission.
Jha has said that he is not obligated to show the movie to any other external body other than the Censor Board. At the same time, the director also said that in case the board directs him to show the movie to another body, then it would be in their power.
Aarakshan is all set to be released on 12th August 2011 and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Prateik Babbar, Deepika Padukone and Manoj Bajpayee.
