Dev Anand last rites to be held on December 10

The legendary Bollywood actor Dev Anand will be cremated in London on December 10, 2011. Anand breathed his last on December 4, 2011 in London due to a cardiac arrest, while he was accompanied by his son Suniel.

The family was waiting for the arrival of Anand’s daughter Devina and wife Kalpana in London after which it was decided that he will be cremated in London. After the cremation, son Suniel will be returning to Mumbai and will address the media at the Mehboob studio.

The funeral will begin at 11:40 am on Saturday at the Putney Wales and immediately after the funeral a condolence meeting will also be held at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in West Kensington. The government of India earlier offered that the body of the actor can be brought to India for the last rites.

But after Anand’s wife Kalpana and daughter Devina landed in London on December 7 and it was decided that he will be cremated in London only. Vijay Anand’s son Vibhuvaibhav Anand said as most of Dev Anand’s films were shot in Mehboob studio, Iqbal Mehboob Khan offered Mehboob Studio to hold his memoriam. Vibhuvaibhav even said that Anand had a permanent room in the studio where all his pictures are put up.
