Indian designer Joy Mitra showcased his fusion of the past and present in his collection ‘The Music Room’ at the Will Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2015 in New Delhi. For spring/summer 2015, the Bengali designer adopted the aforementioned theme from Satyajit Ray’s 1958 Indian Bengali drama ‘Jalsaghar’.
He kept the ethnic designs in monochrome solidity, adding creative feminine lines with a mix of peach and pista hues. Mitra’s lehengas, anarkali kurtas and draped saris sported conspicuous gold embellishments in the form of zardozi and sequin embroidery, adding regality and splendor to the theme.
By fusing Indian classic crafts with modern lines and cuts, he created noteworthy designs such as his pleated kalidaar lehengas with side pockets, angrakha necklines for floor-length gowns and collared full-sleeve silk blouses with ruffled tulle saris.
