Indian designer Neeta Bhargava showcased her pret collection, ‘Unmaze the Gaze’, in support of the Indian textile industry at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2015 in New Delhi on October 12, 2014. Her collection, as a theme, highlighted modern day issues faced by the country’s textile industry.
Bhargava’s line comprised organic renditions of grey, white and cool blue ensembles, which called for the use of eco-friendly vegetable dyes to control chemical pollution caused by garment factories, as well as encourage the revival of handlooms.
Taking inspiration from nature, the designer used bird motifs and hand-painted indigo dye designs on pure white outfits. Using fine linens and cottons, she further created miniature outfits of each piece adorned by the models and displayed them in cages as props.
This was done to bring to fore the fact that in olden times, craftsmen made miniature outfits for approval by their royal patrons. The showstoppers for this austere collection were Kuchipudi dancers Bhavana and Yamini Reddy.
