India’s second oldest movie festival, the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival, was inaugurated at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on November 10, 2014. The inaugural event was attended by chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and the cream of Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan.
The stars at the event were all dressed in elegant black outfits and Uttariyas (stoles) which were gifted by Mamata Banerjee. Other guests at the event included Shoojit Sarcar and Amol Palekar and a host of Bengali film actors. Aishwarya launched the official brochure and actress Tanuja and Jaya Bachchan released a Bengali music CD.
Jaya looked great in a white sari and expressed that she was delighted to be present at the event with the rest of her family and wished that her granddaughter Aaradhya would join them some day on stage. The actress said, “It has become a family event for us.”
Jaya and Tanuja added that the Bengali audience is the best in the world. Aishwarya appreciated the orchestra on their performance and also thanked the CM in broken Bengali.
