Superstar of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the 4th National Yash Chopra Memorial Award at a grand event in Mumbai on February 25, 2017. The ‘Om Shanti Om’ actor looked dapper in a velvet suit and received the award from the hands of Veteran actress Rekha and Maharashtra Governor, C. Vidya Sagar Rao.
The actor, in his acceptance speech credited the legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, who had pushed him to do love stories. Shah Rukh said, “I started working with Yash Chopraji with ‘Darr’ in which I was a bad guy. I was killing people and misbehaving completely (referring to his earlier films) even without being on drugs and that was really really intense. I remember Yashji telling me that till the time I don’t play a lover boy nothing will happen or change for me professionally.”
The actor added that Mr. Chopra had single handedly created Shah Rukh’s career and that he feels honoured to receive the award. The event also saw the presence of Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra, actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, actresses Padmini Kolhapure and Simi Garewal.
The National Yash Chopra award is given to the celebrities for their contribution to cinema. Shah Rukh has become the fourth recipient of the award. Earlier, celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, singer Lata Mangeshkar and Rekha were honoured before Khan.
Shah Rukh was last seen in the movie ‘Raees’ that hit theatres in January 2017 and performed great at the box office.
