Aishwarya Rai’s father passes away due to cancer relapse
Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s father Krishnaraj Rai, who was ailing in the hospital for some time, passed away at 4pm (local time) on March 18, 2017. Mr. Rai was reportedly suffering from cancer of the lymphoma and was under critical condition since the past couple of weeks. The funeral and final rites took place at the Seva Sansthan Shamshan Bhoomi in Vile Parle, Mumbai on March 19, 2017.
Doctors who treated him at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, revealed that he was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. He had been suffering from this form of cancer for a while, but was thought to be in remission. His state worsened as he had a relapse from the cancer, and this time, it proved fatal. In fact, his condition was so unstable, that he had to be put on a ventilator since March 10th, to help him breathe. Celebrities who were seen at the crematorium included Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Goldie Bahl, Randhir Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Ambani, J.P. Dutta, Manish Malhotra and others.
The last rites of Mr. Rai were performed by Aishwarya’s brother Aditya Rai. Aishwarya Rai in recent times was busy coping up with her work commitments and spent most of her time taking care of her ailing father.
Aishwarya had been reportedly close to her father and was heartbroken on her father’s demise. The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress was seen teary eyed as she sat at the back seat of her car with husband Abhishek on the front seat, as they came out of the crematorium. Krishnaraj was an army biologist, while mother Brinda is a home-maker. Mr. Rai is survived by wife, daughter Aishwarya and son Aditya, who is an engineer in the merchant navy.
