Bipasha Basu acknowledges need for women to be trained in self defense and plans to open self-defense schools by 2018

Bollywood’s Bengali beauty Bipasha Basu is one of the many actresses in the industry who promote fitness. The actress is now looking forward to invest in a new venture which can be helpful for women scores of women. She has revealed her plans to open several self-defense schools for women by 2018.

The Jism actress has planned to open such centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata. The self-defense schools will train women in various forms of martial arts including kick boxing, Krav Maga amonst other kinds of combat training. Women between the ages 13 years to 30 years will be trained under the institution’s various courses which may span from a few weeks to full-fledged educational courses.

Through these schools, Bipasha Basu aims at imparting basic self defense training for all women. While talking to a leading daily, Bipasha expressed her concerns about increasing levels of crimes against women in the country and added that self defense has become important for all.

However, Bipasha Basu is not the first celebrity to venture into self defense training for women. Recently, ace martial arts practitioner and trainer Akshay Kumar too started a series of women’s self defense workshops in Mumbai and Delhi in collaboration with learned trainers. His workshops aim at teaching women handy moves which can help them get out of tricky situations. The speciality of his workshops is that there is no age bar and women are urged to come in their daily wear attires – be it sarees or salwar kurtas. The main aim is to prepare workshop attendees for real life situations and to create a confident mindset among them, urging them to fight back, instead of feeling like a victim.
