Akshay Kumar discusses Toilet - Ek Prem Katha with PM Modi

“His smile at just the title made my day”, tweets Akshay after his meeting with the PM Modi

The National Award winner, Akshay Kumar was recently in New Delhi to receive the award for his film, Rustom. He got a chance to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his short visit. The actor told PM Modi about his upcoming film, Toilet- Ek Prem Katha and it’s title itself got him smiling!

A social satire, the film is about PM Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan along with a love story. The film deals with the menace of open defecation and the idea of bringing a change in the country.

Akshay Kumar shared a picture with PM Modi on Twitter and Instagram and captioned it, “Met PM @narendramodi and got the opportunity to tell him about my upcoming ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.’ His smile at just the title made my day!”

It was earlier said that the film is based on Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. But Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal, the dialogue writers of the film told IANS that the movie was conceptualized much before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.

Akshay Kumar was most likely meeting PM Modi with regards to his website and app which allows citizens to make donations towards military personnel’s families who lose their life on the battle field. The actor also took Toilet – Ek Prem Katha from reel to real in March, helping dig two pit toilets for sanitation in Madhya Pradesh.

Akshay Kumar told NDTV in an interview that, “This issue is there in the face so I am talking about it through the film (‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’) and why should we run away from it. It is one of biggest problems we have. There are about 1000 children that die due to diarrhoea in India.”

“When I announced the name, many people called me to ask why I am using this title. I got a good script. So, I said that I want to make this film. It is a taboo thing to talk about.” Akshay said.

Akshay Kumar also talked about Soch and Shauch on his Youtube channel, Direct Dil Se.

The film casts Bhumi Pednekar opposite Akshay Kumar. It also stars Anupam Kher and Sana Khan. Mr. Khiladi’s next upcoming after Toilet – EK Prem Katha is Padman, which is about sanitary napkins and 2.0 which is a science fiction thriller.
