A steady surge of the omicron cases in Delhi has left the authorities worried and have shut down the movie theatres. The decision has been taken, when the film industry had just managed to bounce back after the severe impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The government of Delhi on December 28, 2021 ordered to shut down the cinema halls, gyms and spas as a measure to help curb the spread of COVID.

The decision by the government has left the multiplex owners worried and has also written a letter of appeal to the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to reconsider the new rules and allow the operations of the theatres, who have assured to follow strict guidelines and safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Bollywood celebrities including Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan will soon be seen sharing the screen space in the film Bhediya, have extended their support towards the plea by the multiple owners. They have posted a statement on behalf of the Multiplex Association of India on their Instagram stories and have urged people to read and spread it.

The statement reminded about their plight during the March 2020 period when everything was shut down due to the pandemic. The plea has also urged the government to introduce double vaccination requirement to enter cinemas like it has been levied in the states like Maharashtra.
