A doctor from the Breach Candy Hospital on January 11, 2022 informed that Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar is currently being treated for COVID-19 and pneumonia. The 92 year old singer was in 2019 hospitalized for a serious lung related ailment and pneumonia.
Dr. Pratit Samdhani is one of the doctors treating the singer and said that she was brought to the hospital on January 9, 2022 and is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. The singer’s niece Rachna Shah, informed that she is alert and stable. One of the family friend of the singer added that she has been keeping in good spirits and ever since COVID started the family has been taking utmost care that the visitors do not meet her.
It was also informed that even her attendants were regularly tested for COVID-19. Lata Mangeshkar started singing from the age of 13 and has sung more than 30,000 songs in several Indian languages. She has a career spanning more than seven decades and continues to be the veteran in the music industry.
Mangeshkar is considered as one of the greatest singers in Indian cinema and is also a recipient of Bharat Ratna, which is the highest civilian award, in 2001. She has also received Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhudhan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
