Sanjay Dutt’s biographical drama starring Ranbir Kapoor will now be released around summer 2018

Probably one of Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest films to date, the yet-untitled Sanjay Dutt biopic is already creating a buzz among Bollywood aficionados. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film’s release date has finally been announced by the makers. The biopic is slated for a theatrical release on March 30, 2018.

Film trade analyst and critic, Taran Adarsh made the announcement through his Twitter account, stating: #BreakingNews: Sanjay Dutt biopic to release on 30 March 2018… Rajkumar Hirani directs… Stars Ranbir Kapoor… NOTE: Not titled yet.”

Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, which was slated to release on Christmas this year is now postponed to March 2018. At first, the film was to clash with Salman’s Tiger Zinda Hai, since it was scheduled to hit theaters on December 23, 2017. It seems that the producers do not want the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer to clash with Salman Khan’s film, that also stars Katrina Kaif.

A statement was released stating a new deal between Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Fox Star Studios. It read as, “Fox Star Studios inks a 3 film deal with Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra over their next ventures. Collaboration commences with Sanjay Dutt’s untitled biopic releasing on March 30, 2018, followed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial next.” The news about the third film is not out yet.

Sanjay Dutt’s biopic has Ranbir Kapoor playing the troubled Bollywood icon. It goes back to his dark days in the ’80s and ’90s, following his drug abuse as well as legal troubles. For the film, Ranbir is said to be switching into seven different avatars to mark the star’s journey through life. The film also stars Manisha Koirala, who will play the role of the late Nargis Dutt. Paresh Rawal will be playing Sunil Dutt, Dia Mirza has been cast as Dutt’s wife Manyata. Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma also play significant roles in the film.
