The plot keeps thickening in The Hungry trailer that stars Naseeruddin Shah and Tisca Chopra in lead roles

Expectations can only be high from a movie that is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s plays and brings together two seasoned actors in lead roles. The Hungry trailer is out now and it features Naseeruddin Shah and Tisca Chopra in an intriguing plot where the journey keeps getting darker with layers of secrets deeply embroiled among the characters who resonate with the urban, high-profile and elite North Indian crowd.

The movie is based on an adaptation of Shakespeare’s polular drama, Titus Andronicus where Chopra essays the role of a widow called Tulsi Joshi, who on the day of her second wedding plans to avenge the murder of her first born son. The animosity between power and love that lead to brutal killings and reflect on the nuances of human mind especially those in well-to-do families is what The Hungry trailer depicts.

A couple of days ahead of its global premiere at the acclaimed Toronto International Film Festival, the trailer of the movie was released by Cinestaan Film Company in association with Film London Today.

Written and directed by Bornila Chatterjee (of The Sun is Shining and Let’sBe Out fame) and co-written and produced by Tanaji Dasgupta and Kurban Kassan, The Hungry will be released for the global audience however, its release date has not yet been announced.

Shah was quoted saying about what inspired him to do the film, “What really got through to me was that it’s a pretty accurate picture of the small town power elite in India where you have the sugar barons and the guys who make textile or landlords and there have been many instances of brothers gunning each other down, parents killing their children or vice versa. It was a sort of an attempt to understand people of that kind, and not pass judgment on them.”

Even Chopra is excited for her intense and matured role in the film. She says, “For any actor, Shakespeare is always on the wish list. You always sort of want to tick that box. There is a sense of inherent power in my character ‘Tulsi’. She is not emasculated or in any way angular or aggressive or the standard caveats of being strong. I think there is a power source inherent in her. And I have heard people talk about parts like this but I haven’t really experienced it and I am experiencing it now.”

Though the trailer only gives an insight into the thrill, suspense and mystery in the plot, it is enthralling enough for the audiences worldwide.
