In this exclusive interview with Ahana Kumra, she talks about her role in the phenomenal film, Lipstick Under My Burkha and how she grateful to have landed this roles. In the interview, Ahana also talks about how the film changed her perspective. She says that he stint with the entire cast of Lipstick Under My Burkha taught her about not being judgmental about people in life. If one is gay or lesbian or if one wants to have sex or does not want to have sex, is completely the person’s choice. She says that everyone must watch this film because it portrays the story of women in Indian society.
Aahana Kumra considers herself lucky to be part of a film that shackles the age-old mentality of patriarchy and talks about women’s desires and promoting the cause of women liberation.
Lipstick Under My Burkha tells the story of four women based in a small town, who are exploring their lives and in the process, fight for their freedom from patriarchal oppression. In the movie, Aahana plays the role of a small town beautician who desperately wants to escape the arranged marriage set up by her family and ends up eloping with her lover.
But Ahana was not always a part of the film. She had initially almost lost the opportunity due to prior commitments. But as a matter of chance, the film’s shooting got delayed and the role came back to her. Talking about her odds in working in the film Aahana said to a leading daily, “Fortune favours the brave and voila, it came to me again! Alankrita’s casting team Shruti and Parag called me and asked me if I was free in August and I was appalled to know they hadn’t shot the film yet. They had tested almost the whole of Mumbai and I too auditioned for the part. I bagged the role and was so happy to be collaborating on a script that was going to turn into a movement with the most stellar cast.”
