Sunmeet Kaur Sawhney, a housewife-cum-tuition teacher from Mumbai has become the first lady contestant on the popular game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) to win the jackpot prize of Rs. 5 crores. Sawhney gave tuition to children in Mumbai so as to add to her family income and has now won enough money on the show, hosted by super star Amitabh Bachchan, to last her a while.
Sawhney, who studied up to class 12 in school said, “My parents wanted me to study further, but considering my grandfather’s poor health and his wish to see me getting married I couldn’t study more. After marriage I got caught up in household chores and responsibilities”. The winner of the show also said that after she had undergone a surgery she took the decision to take tuition at home.
Sawhney also said that she strongly believes that knowledge is the key to success and that it is not just about how much someone is qualified, but is also about keeping oneself updated with current affairs. The housewife could not study further, but added that she would make sure that her daughters get the best possible education.
Sawhney’s elder daughter wants to study medicine and has a keen interest in the field. Her younger daughter wishes to become an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer. Husband Manmeet is a small-time actor who has appeared in about 50 commercials and Ram Gopal Verma’s movie ‘Jungle’.
